Downshift (դան_դաղում)
April 06, 2017
Slow down. Look. Listen. Observe. In HAYP 9.0: Downshift, we’re asking artists (and our audience) to slow down their pace of life, disrupt their routine, and conceive of time in ways other than something to be contained, divided, and efficiently filled. Instead of “time management” consider unproductive time, or rather, productive delay. We’re talking about tuning into our perceptive awareness and noticing the little things of the everyday: the sound, sight, smell, and touch that frame our lives. It’s about taking the time to pay attention, to immerse ourselves in a moment. Deceleration for heightened awareness.

____ movement [interdisciplinary performance]
Movements of hands, lips, bodies, air molecules, moon, sun and star dusts are imperfectly following a repetitive structure. The spontaneous encounters and random happenings within the imaginable form of everyday life’s logical structure can seem chaotic to minds capable of human rationality.
In this performance we are not talking, not even moving; we are still, welcoming the movements. One can get lost in translation, so we are not translating movements into materials, the materials are created by means of movement in parallel, co-existing while being interdisciplinary related.

From April 8 to 18, HAYP Pop Up Gallery will present its 6th contemporary art exhibition, “Lips of Pride”, which focuses on the theme of women’s sexuality and societal perceptions of shame in Armenia.
“Lips of Pride” aims to begin a discussion on a taboo topic, and to give a voice to those whom are often silenced.
HAYP asked 25 women artists from Armenia and abroad to share their perspectives on the intertwined topics of sexuality, pleasure, shame, femininity, identity, discrimination and injustice within a patriarchal culture.
